INTERPRETATION OF
THE CLUES FOR GOLDEN EGG #1 AND THE LUCKY FINDERS Well this egg was found rather quickly, and with only two clues! The lucky finders, a mother and daugther claim they were out at night with a flashlight looking for the egg after they decihered the clues to mean the DuPont Transit Center. The first clue refers to the proximity of where the egg was, near a STOP sign. The second clue actually was a reference to the movie It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (great treasure hunting movie!) and though not a big W, the T is the white "T" along Wilmington Ave near the Transit Center. But the winner tells me their interpretation of the big W is the W made up of artwork in the screens. Doesn't matter though, they found the egg right? BTW, the gold coin was not in this egg. |

INTERPRETATION
OF THE CLUES FOR GOLDEN EGG #2 AND THE LUCKY FINDERS This one took nine days to find, and by a family that was out of town the first week of the hunt too. The first clue gives the indication that it is somewhere near Center Drive, due to the capitalization of the letter "C". The second clue, "a dead end" is two clues in one. One being a dead end street, but also can be interpreted to mean that dynamite can end your life. The third clue, the "hot clue" is the rocky oven used by Farelli's to cook their pizzas. Many people were looking right outside here, but the clue doesn't indicate that the egg is right outside, just to find the same thing outside somewhere in DuPont. The rocky structure is similar to the fence at the Powderworks gate. The fourth clue means the two gates, there is one small one and one large one, the charge refers to a dynamite charger and since the egg was the farthest it could be, it was near the end of the rocky fenceline to the entrance to the old plant. BTW, the gold coin was not in this egg. |

INTERPRETATION
OF THE CLUES FOR GOLDEN EGG #3 AND THE LUCKY FINDERS A day later and now there is only one left, who will be the last lucky finder of this year's Golden Egg Hunt? The first clue tells you to start where DuPont ends, if you have looked at a map of DuPont, you'll see DuPont Ave in the Historic District. Some thought this meant the furthest points in town, but alas no, this was the clue's real interpretation to start you on your way. The second clue, "14 steps"? Well at the end of DuPont Ave there is a series of railroad tie steps, 14 steps down to get to Ross Trail, but which way should you go? This clue also seemed to have thrown everyone off, including Bruce and Nancy Thill at Bruceski's Pizza who are from New York. A "Johnny" is short for "Johnny Pump" or fire hydrant. If you figured this one out, you'll know to turn right while on Ross Trail which leads you to The Grand Junction which is so named due to the number of trails that meet up at this one spot in DuPont, WA. The third clue is meant to help you think about the location where you are standing, what is around you, then find a similar place in DuPont. If you stand at the northern tip of Ross Plaza, facing South towards Venture Bank, you'll have Ross Street behind you, Ross Loop on both sides of you, Wilmington to your right and left. If you overlay this same location it just about matches up with the trails at The Grand Junction and the egg matches up with Ross Plaza. See overlay in picture as shown. Subsequent clues would have led you know you were in the right spot as clues would have been about the location, like the down tree that looks like Pride Rock, then even further to find the egg next to the blue marker with a "V". BTW, the gold coin was not in this egg either, so guess which one has the gold? |

INTERPRETATION
OF THE CLUES FOR GOLDEN EGG #4 AND THE LUCKY FINDERS Amazingly someone was very lucky on what is normally known as the most unluckiest day of all, but alas the last Golden Egg was found on Friday the 13th of April. The egg was found by a family who claims went out to the site in the middle of the night with searchlights and YES this egg did have the U.S. Gold Eagle coin!!! |
| 4/1/07: Before you go hunting for this egg, you might want to bring along something like these tall white things from Anytime Fitness. (do not take theirs!) | The clue that started the craze and the mad dash to Anytime Fitness on the morning of April 1st. Kellie tells me that there were people outside her door the morning this clue came out. What was it that you should have? A water bottle, because the trek to where this egg was located was VERY far! |
| 4/6/07 (Event Alert Clue): Travel along with this Captain as far as you can, then head starboard and North to this land. | This clue starts to help you know where it the egg is located. The Captain is Capt. McNeil of The Beaver which was the first steamship in the Puget Sound. Learn more about him at the DuPont Museum! McNeil has a street named after him, and at the end of it, head starboard (which is a clue that this is a navy Captain) and turn right. The land North, well, the clue didn't say where, but some knew. |
| 4/7/07: If you still need help ACU makes sense, two years ago it was worth five cents. | What was ACU? It the initials for America's Credit Union because if you figured out that two years ago a nickel was worth five cents you could go to ACU and try to see a 2005 nickel. On the back of this nickel, which actually is a homage to Lewis & Clark, is an ocean view with trees. Another hint that you should be looking someplace that has this "view". |
| 4/13/07 (Event Alert Clue): This area was for coastal mapping, not star gazing. | Now is where the clues start to tell you where to be looking exactly, though some by this time already knew by the other clues. The Wilkes Observatory was used in 1841 as a base camp to map the coastal land for the Army. The marker out there placed by the DuPont Company is one of four markers in all of DuPont noting the significance of this location. |
| 4/14/07: Put all the clues and answers together now and read them like a book, if you figure this one out, you'll know just where to look. | Ahh
this clue is a clue of clues! It's a homage to Agatha Christie who would always use
clues from other stories as clues to help solve other mysteries. This clue says to put clues and answers together so let's piece some clues together to help you out, again think like reading a book now! From Golden Egg#1: "If you STOP long enough" means the end of the rail line. "it's near a "T"" - A tree From Golden Egg #2: "near a dead end" means the end of the trail and the end of the line for the railroad tracks "the egg is the farthest North" means the farthest North at this location before the trail goes down the hill to the water. From Golden Egg #3: "start where DuPont ends" means a couple of things, the end of the trail, the railroad line, the farthest point West in DuPont "take 14 steps" means if you were out looking for this egg, the 14 steps were made out of railroad ties, the same ties for the end of the rail line! "toward the South you should face" means that if you figured out all the previous clues, you knew to stand South of the rail line's end and start looking there. All the clues for Golden Egg #4 were for #4, but because Egg #3 was found soon, I wasn't able to put the clues up about the fallen tree at The Grand Junction to help you on this. The eggs were found really fast this year, I expected at least one more week to get all the clues posted to help find #4. |
