DuPont, WA - Welcome visitors and Joint Base Lewis-McChord relocators to Washington!
Welcome visitors and Joint Base Lewis-McChord relocators to the birthplace of Washington State!
A slice of Americana awaits you in our beautiful, but growing, small town located in glorious Northwest Washington State
nestled between the Cascades/Mount Rainer and the Puget Sound.
DuPont is located about 15 miles north of Olympia, WA (our state capitol) and about 20 miles south of Tacoma, WA along the I-5 corridor
off Exits 118 and 119 adjacent to and minutes from Joint Base Lewis-McChord. Most of our residents are active duty military families, but sprinkled in
and throughout the community you will find long time residents who have been living in DuPont for decades.
Though our local history dates back several thousand years, in 1833 the Hudson's Bay Company set
up shop on the site in a trading post called Fort Nisqually and in time our town would host a major U.S. scientific
expedition which is still landmarked today.
In 1906, E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Co. acquired the property from a variety of owners and became the company
town for The DuPont Company manufacturing dynamite and other explosives.
Today the City of DuPont is listed in the National Register of Historic Places as the only
former company town in the state in which most of the homes maintain historic integrity.
Our town is clean and inviting with several community parks, golf courses, trails, outdoor activities, and other local attractions.
If you enjoy visiting or living in the Pacific Northwest, your journey to this area is not complete without a
visit to the town that is the Birthplace of Washington State.
